The Rocky Mountain Spring is here and the fabled Colorado 'Powder' is becoming a faded memory. The skiers of Winter are being replaced by hikers, campers, and adventurers. KDEN is a busy jumping off airport to a number of smaller regional airports including Aspen, Gunnison,  Montrose, Telluride, Durango, and Hayden just to name a few. You better have your mountain flight planning and IFR skills honed because year-round mountain weather often brings fast changing conditions, quite often of the IMC variety. The four seasons in the Colorado Mountains can attract thousands of people and hundreds of aircraft to airports in Western Colorado. In addition to the main regionals, there are many other fun mountain strips just waiting to challenge you with their unique blend of terrain and density altitude considerations. Try a daytime flight into (and out of) Telluride- that's one you'll never forget. Remember, seasonal changes in the local mountain weather patterns bring special flying challenges.
